A Dud

Duds happen.  And for me, it happens most frequently in knitting.

Don’t you love wonky proportioned Christmas stockings? I mean look at the size of that toe!!

This is a Debbie Bliss pattern, but I’m only going to blame her for the weird heel.

The rest is all really my fault because:

1. I didn’t swatch.
2. I used yarn I bought at a garage sale, and I thought (still do sorta) that the hand-wound balls were the same.  Maybe not because the colorway changes somewhat after the heel.
3. I didn’t swatch.
4. I didn’t follow the pattern exactly, but in my defense, I rarely follow patterns exactly. I just didn’t switch the needle sizes-mostly because I didn’t have the other size and because I thought it would be fine. Um, no.

But then there’s the heel. It’s just plain awkward. If I make a stocking again, I will definitely use a different heel option.  To my relief it’s a common complaint on Ravelry too.

I do like the snowflake pattern and will most likely use it again, but for now this dud will soon be unraveled.

About lionsdaughter

I like to make things, lots of things, but not all things. I love to sew, knit, embroider, take pictures, scrapbook, dye fibers, work clay in the summer, garden. I want to try weaving, spinning, and stain glass work. I have no interest in auto body, upholstery, or tanning (either working animal skin or purposefully darkening my own).

  1. I love the colour of the yarn and the snowflake pattern. What a shame that you have to undo your work. 😦
